Recording on campus
While it is true that North Carolina has a one-party recording rule (meaning that as long as one party is aware of the recording it is perfectly legal), legal precedent has established that classrooms are protected spaces and schools can create their own guidelines prohibiting such acts, regardless of the one-party rule. The following two guidelines regarding recording in school have been vetted through Mr. Erwin and approved by Dr. Collins:
- Any video, audio, or photographic recording in classrooms or other areas designated for student learning without prior consent from the teacher and/or school administration is strictly prohibited.
- Any video, audio, or photographic recording in restrooms, locker rooms, or any other areas where privacy is an expectation is impermissible. Violations of this rule may result in criminal charges.
